Kaamatan Holidays

We have a 2 day holiday here in Sabah, to celebrate the Kaamatan (Harvest) Festival. Yesterday, my big brother, my boo and I went to Pasar Besar in town (to the Fish Market) to buy some shells to cook for dinner. But no such luck. Only bought some fish and veggies.

Unsatisfied that they couldn't find the shells, we then headed all the way to Tuaran to find them. It was a beautiful day after all, and we enjoyed the drive there..

We headed on to the fish market there but couldn't find the shells there either. We then had Tuaran Mee for lunch, and bought Lokan (cockles) and Coconut Pudding on the way back..

It was interesting to see how the Lokan are being cooked. But we just bought it raw and decided to cook it at home for our big dinner.

Once we reached home, we then got all the stuff ready for the dinner.. This is what we had.. Notice how we didn't have Tapai (local rice wine); instead we had Baileys Irish Cream, sponsored by Sarah, my brother's friend. Even mom liked it!

Movie Review: X-Men 3: The Last Stand

Went to watch X-Men 3 on Saturday night with my boo. I enjoyed the movie; quite interesting to see another side of Jean. Overall: thumbs up!

Dad's Birthday Dinner

We had our dinner at Atlantis Restaurant at Bundusan. I personally like this place as there are not many people there, so the food is prepared quite fast. I didn't know that this restaurant was awarded the Best Seafood Restaurant for 2005. Hmm...

Soccer Match : Malaysia Team vs. My Team

Watched it live last night. The score: Malaysia=2, My Team=1. Overall, I think Shebby's My Team did pretty good considering that they are an 'ameteur' team. This match is a good 'wake-up call' to the Malaysia soccer team; for them to play better in the future.

Winner of American Idol 5

The official winner of American Idol 5 had just been announced: Taylor Hicks! I haven't watched the result show, only read Rickey.org, but from what I read, the result show was much better than the finale show yesterday. So many people performed! I can't wait to watch it tonight; I miss seeing Elliott perform.

We bought Bak Kut Teh for my mom's birthday dinner; we haven't eaten this together with parents in a long time. We brought the food home and had a late dinner because my parents attended mass in church last night.

Dad is planning to treat us to his birthday dinner tomorrow instead of tonight. Can't wait; it'll be on seafood night (Friday)!

Double Birthday

This is the card I made for my parents recently. My mom's birthday is today and my dad's birthday is tomorrow. Not sure what the plan is yet for tonight..

Sipadan Reef Destroyed

I'm sure everybody in the world knows by now about the tragic incident in Sipadan recently. But if you haven't, click here to read about it.

Alex Mustard was also on the island when the accident occurred. According to him, "The damaged area was at least the size of a couple of tennis courts." There's no word yet on why the barge was anchored so close to such an important, "protected" area. Certainly, however, the reef will take thousands of years to recover -- if it ever does.

Now, our Chief Minister has ordered a full probe into this disaster and halted all construction work on the island. (Source)
