Walk For Days

Pathway leading up to Mahua Waterfall
When the fiance and I went back to kampung last month, we managed to do a little walk in the jungle leading to the Mahua Waterfall. The photo above is how the pathway leading up to the waterfall look like. It can be slippery on some paths, so it’s better to wear sport shoes if you like to walk fast, or if you insist on wearing slippers (like what I did!) you just have to walk slow, otherwise you would risk yourself of slipping.

Anyways, pathways like the above reminded me of a story my dad used to tell us (which I then told the fiance about it). When my dad was still a boy and was studying alone in a missionary school in Kota Kinabalu, sometimes my late grandpa would give him a surprise visit now and then.

That’s not the fascinating part though.. what amazed me was that my late grandpa would walk from his kampung somewhere in Tambunan ALL THE WAY to KK.. which took him a couple of days trip! Can you guys imagine that?? Walking in the jungle.. bare feet.. without any actual sealed road or having any mode of public transportation to KK available (like we have now?).. and a journey that takes a few days just to reach KK??

The above story is one of the few stories that I know about my grandpa, and it is certainly my favourite. It just shows how deep a father’s love to his son.. and to me,a very touching story.

But not like now, where practically everything is available to us, like proper roads, public transportation, and own cars.. We’re spoiled, I tell you! Spoiled! Lol.. How many of you would do that for your son..? Or even go back to kampung to visit your parents there, hmm??

That reminds me, my car insurance is expiring next month.. gotta be on the lookout for a car insurance company! ;)

UMS Students at Mahua

A group of UMS students organised a trip together with their lecturers to visit the Mahua Waterfall through my dad’s tour agency, Mahua Nature Holidays, and my parents were the tour organisers there.

These are the pictures that were taken..

Parents even brought them for a Tuhau planting session on a hill nearby, and these students just absolutely love it! City people just don’t get to experience this! (And even I myself haven’t planted any.. or wait. I have, in my backyard LOL.)

Here’s parents & others standing in front of the signboard..

Here’s dad showing them how to plant the tuhau..

And here are the students posing after each completed their tuhau planting task. Some even wanted to plant more than one plant! Ke-syokkan maybe..

These are their night activities.. gathering near the camp fire..

Doing the Sumazau train dance at the Balai Raya..

Doing the Joget dance..

Doing the spot dance, too. It’s part of the Mahua Nature Holidays Stress Therapy..

These students were supposed to be in bed at around 11pm, but they partied until 12am! They even had a karaoke session there at the balai raya (what balai raya in English??)

Before they all left, everybody kept on saying that they will be organising another trip on the next holiday and coming back for more fun away from the city.. The senior students complained though, that they wouldn’t be able to join the trips..

And another thing they commented about the place the next day: It was freezing cold there! So when you come here, don’t forget to bring your sweaters and blankets and such ya!
